Great Western commences major EM survey

Newly listed nickel explorer, Great Western Exploration is set to resume its exploration push in the highly prospective Forrestania Belt of Western Australia, with a soon to commence 75 line kilometre ground electromagnetic survey over three targeted areas in its 80 percent-owned Mount Gibb and Hatters Hill projects. The EM survey will compliment the geophysical survey programs undertaken by Uran Limited in 2004, which delineated 11km of unrecognised southern extensions of the Forrestania nickel belt, highlighting a number of untested magnetic and electrically conductive anomalies.Subsequent scout RAB drilling and shallow reverse circulation drilling intersected gold and anomalous nickel values at the projects, however Great Western said deeper drilling of EM targets remains the key to exploration in the belt. The Mt Gibb Project is located along strike from Western Areas’ Flying Fox Nickel Mine and Diggers South nickel deposit and lies within the same belt as the highly prospective nickel tenement acquired last year by Kagara Zinc.Great Western Managing Director, Tom Bannerman said the EM survey, which is scheduled to commence shortly, represents the key first step towards defining deep drilling targets within its tenements.“Discoveries such as Flying Fox, with limited strike extent but remarkable vertical depth extent, highlight the importance of deep drilling EM targets in order to generate new discoveries,” Mr Bannerman said.“The recent discoveries in the Forrestania region have provided added impetus to our own forthcoming exploration push and we are looking forward to the re-commencement of exploration activities,” he said. “We believe that the previous work, which involved only first pass shallow drilling, did not adequately test the potential of our projects, and we will commence deep drilling of the priority targets during the second half of this year.”Great Western, which was formed through the de-merger of nickel assets from uranium explorer Uran Limited, holds an 80 percent interest in the Mt Gibb and Hatters Hill nickel/gold projects.
