Peak Resources has commenced an initial RAB/Aircore drilling program on its Doolgunna project, located approximately 160km north of Meekatharra in Western Australia.Drilling has commenced at the Doolgunna Project following the completion of an initial flora study and subsequent program approval by the Western Australian Department of Industry and Resources. The field program at Doolgunna began this year with early encouragement from re-sampling of an isolated reverse circulation hole completed by Rio Tinto in 2001. Re- sampling of the single hole provided a highly anomalous intercept, indicating the continuation of the mineralised corridor into Peak’s tenements. During April and May Peak undertook a 4,500 point soil program at Doolgunna, which is being now followed by 8,000m of RAB and Aircore drilling. Peak completed planning work on a first pass RAB/Aircore programme at Doolgunna during the March quarter this year, following a geological interpretation of the airborne magnetic survey. The company had planned to have completed drilling by the end of the June Quarter, but was delayed until the granting of necessary environmental approvals and rig availability. An aeromagnetic survey was flown by Peak at Doolgunna, designed to infill gaps from recently obtained, highly detailed aeromagnetic surveys previously flown over the area. According to Peak, this highly detailed survey has allowed the company to focus its exploration program more effectively within the mineralised corridor. Peak said work stemming from these surveys had assisted in the identification of interpreted mineralised feeder systems, which provide numerous structural targets, a number of which are being tested by the current program. Peak’s proposed drilling will include targeting strike extensions to the mineralised corridor, previously outlined by Sandfire Resources during 2006, to the southwest of the company’s Doolgunna tenements within an area that is structurally favourable to host large tonnage deposits. Peak said it anticipated results form the current program would be received within four to six weeks.
