According to Fars news agency, Mohammad Reza Bahmani said Orumiyeh Lake is one of the world’s largest salt water lakes, stressing that if private companies invest just $100 million in mineral projects in the lake, various kinds of minerals can be exploited for domestic use and for export.
He said the lake’s water contains, among other chemicals, sodium chloride (20 percent), magnesium sulfate (three percent) and potassium chloride (two percent).
The official further noted that Azarbaijan Regional Mining Company is planning to produce 50,000 tons of potassium sulfate, 500,000 tons of sodium chloride, 6,000 tons of brome and 60,000 tons of magnesium chloride.
