The First Meeting of the Heads of the Geological Surveys of BRICS Member Countries took place on Jul 15 -17 ,2024 in Moscow-Russia with the presence of the Geological Survey of Iran (GSI)

The First Meeting of the Heads of the Geological Surveys of BRICS Member Countries took place on Jul 15 -17 ,2024 in Moscow-Russia with the presence of the Geological Survey of Iran (GSI).

This meeting with a roundtable on “Prospects for BRICS Cooperation in the Study, Development and Sustainable Use of Mineral Resources” had the Development of international cooperation and fortifying the inter-agencies / services/ surveys communications to respond the upcoming challenges in its agenda.

The members attending this meeting reached an agreement on the development of the BRICS member countries` international cooperation that can have a positive effect on sustainable management of mineral resources as well as increasing demand on geological exploration and mineral exploitation on the one hand.

On the other hand, members achieved an understanding with each other while aiming at promoting the scientific collaboration and sharing the work experience as well as building capacities to establish a mechanism of regular talks of the heads of the geological surveys of BRICS countries, strengthen the common efforts for increasing the effectiveness of the interactions between the surveys and take actions to set up the geological platform as a mechanism of the mutual cooperation.  

Russia, South Africa, China, Ethiopia, India participated this meeting in person whereas Egypt, UAE, Brazil and the Islamic Republic of Iran virtually.

It is worth mentioning that the countries founding the BRICS,i.e,Brazil,Russia,India and China held the first meeting in2009 and  one year later South Africa joined this organization.Moreover, Egypt Ethiopia, Iran  and UAE joined on Jan 1st ,2024 as well.
